SUSAN LOKEN TO RUN IN THE CASCADES 10K: This year, "The Cascades 10k Firechase and 9-1-1 Fun Run" is pleased to announce the participation of Susan Loken as a registered runner! She will also attend the after party at Velocity 5 immediately following the race. We invite everyone to sign up to attend the after party and meet Susan in person!
Susan Loken is a running coach based in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Loken started running when she was 35 years old, and since, the 48-year old has won the U.S. Masters Marathon Championship four times, has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials three times, and has taken three consecutive titles at the New York City More Marathon. The elite runner has reached her goals and now wants to help others reach theirs. In the past six years, she has coached more than 800 runners to their goal of completing a half or full marathon. www.believetrainbecome.com
Loken is a certified personal trainer (NPTI-Certified). She works as a coach and program director for Chances for Children-Arizona, where she leads fundraising running teams and helps develop programs for Arizona's less-fortunate youth. She is also an ambassador for Lululemon Athletica.
She has three sons, a daughter-in-law, a step-son, a step-daughter, and one granddaughter. She has found a purpose for her passion in running. Helping others.
POST-RACE LUNCH: As always there will be free bagels and water at the race. But we invite everyone to sign up on the checkout page and join us after the race at Velocity 5 for burgers, hot dogs, and chips and drinks. All proceeds benefit Sterling Fire. Susan Loken will be there to meet fans. We'll have a fire truck on hand for the kids to climb on. AWARDS: Prizes will be awarded 3 deep overall (male & female) and 3 deep in the following age group categories: 19 & younger, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & older. Awards for the top three males/females will be based on "clock time" and all age group awards will be based on "net time." Ribboned medals will be given to all Fun Run finishers.
TEAM COMPETITION: There will be co-ed team competition between different firefighter departments. A team is comprised of an unlimited number of firefighters. The fastest three score, and at least one of those scoring must be a member of the opposite sex. There will also be open co-ed team competition. The same rules as the firefighter teams apply to open co-ed teams.

10k: $25 until February 28; $30 from March 1 - May 1; $35 after May 1 until race day; $40 on race day.
Fun Run: $15
T-shirts will be provided for 10k race participants. A great post-race brunch and awards ceremony will round out the day's activities!
911 FUN RUN: Not ready for the 10k distance? Join us for a .911 mile fun run/walk through the Cascades community. The fun run starts immediately after the start of the 10k.
LATE REGISTRATION & PACKET PICKUP: There are three opportunities to register on-site or pick up your bib, orange IPICO tag, and T-shirt: Thursday, May 23, 3-7 p.m at Potomac River Running store: Old Ashburn Square shopping center, 20630 Ashburn Road. Friday, May 24, 3-7 p.m. at the Cascades Firehouse, 46700 Middlefield Drive, Sterling, VA. Race day, registration opens at 6:30 a.m. at the Lowes Island Community Center, 47620 Saulty Drive.
COURSE: The race will have you meandering through the Lowes Island neighborhood of Cascades.
CHARITY BENEFICIARY: Proceeds from this event will benefit the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. Funds raised will help purchase firefighter's gear and rescue equipment that require constant repair and replacement.

From the Beltway: Take the Dulles Toll Road west to the Fairfax County Parkway. Watch for this exit; it comes up fast, without much warning. It is the first exit after the Reston Parkway. Stay on Fairfax County Parkway to the end, and it will turn into Algonkian Parkway. After you are on Algonkian for a while, turn right onto Whitewater Drive. Turn left into the parking lot of Lowes Island Elementary School (20755 Whitewater Drive), just past Sandbank Square. To get to the community center, continue down Whitewater Drive and turn left onto Saulty Drive.
From White's Ferry and the Leesburg area: Take Route 7 East to the Algonkian Parkway exit 1582 North. Proceed on Algonkian Parkway for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto Lowes Island Boulevard (across from a shopping center) and make the second right on Saulty Drive. Follow directions from DC/VA/MD.
PARKING: Lowes Island Elementary School (20755 Whitewater Drive) is on the left on Whitewater Drive (off Algonkian) across from Bank Way. The school has just 80 parking spaces though and they will fill up fast! If you cannot park at the school, you may park at the Great Falls Plaza (Food Lion shopping center, 20789 Great Falls Plaza) on Algonkian Parkway at the intersection of Lowes Island Boulevard. You may also park at the Village Green Day School (47722 Saulty Drive) right past the Lowes Island Community Center or at the Potomac Baptist Church on Lowes Island Boulevard (on the left) as you turn off of Algonkian Parkway.
